The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB RF; Russian: Федеральная служба безопасности Российской Федерации (ФСБ России), Federal'naya sluzhba bezopasnosti Rossiyskoy Federatsii) is Russia's main domestic security agency. It inherited much of the apparatus of the KGB. While foreign intelligence is primarily the role of the SVR, the FSB has gained a role in Russia's 'near abroad' (ref 8).
