The British Secret Intelligence Service (SIS or MI6) had a station in the Polish capital from at least the early 1920s until its evacuation on the outbreak of the Second World War. When the station returned after the War, its attempts to liaise with the anti-communist resistance were compromised by agent penetrations. From the late 1950s, however, it became one of the most productive Eastern Bloc postings.
