Twitter co-operation with Pentagon influence ops revealed
The so-called 'Twitter files', internal company documents released by the new management following Elon Musk's takeover of the company, have been something of a damp squib, but a trawl by The Intercept has produced one significant new revelation.
TWITTER EXECUTIVES HAVE claimed for years that the company makes concerted efforts to detect and thwart government-backed covert propaganda campaigns on its platform.
Behind the scenes, however, the social networking giant provided direct approval and internal protection to the U.S. military’s network of social media accounts and online personas, whitelisting a batch of accounts at the request of the government.
Some of the accounts involved were identified earlier this year by the Stanford Internet Observatory.
