Alastair Crooke is a former MI6 officer and the founder of Conflicts Forum.
Crooke has been described as an 'expert in "parallel diplomacy", the use of covert talks when normal channels have broken down', a field which is something of an MI6 specialty.1 He has worked in conflicts in Ireland, South Africa, Namibia, Afghanistan, Cambodia and Colombia.2
After leaving MI6 he moved to Lebanon, where he has worked to promote dialogue between the West and Islamist groups including Hezbollah and Hamas.
