Anthony Simkins (1912-2003) was a senior MI5 officer who served as Deputy Director General of the Security Service from 1965 to 1971, and wrote the official history of its operations during the Second World War.

Early life

Charles Anthony Goodall Simkins was born on March 2 1912 (ref 1). He was educated at Marlborough and New College, Oxford, where he took a First in Modern History (ref 1).

He was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1936 (ref 1).
