Barrie Gane (1935-2023) was a senior MI6 officer. After an early setback when he was caught with an agent in Warsaw, he served as head of the joint MI5/MI6 station in Northern Ireland, and as later of the Far East and Europe controllerates. In his final post as Director of Requirements and Production he was a contender to head the service. Instead he joined a wave of post-Cold War retirements, finding a second career in the private security industry.
