The Africa Division is a former component of the CIA’s clandestine service.

Organisational history

The Africa Division was created in the Directorate of Plans in November 1959, splitting of from the former Near East and Africa Division.1

The Africa Division was still in existence immediately prior to John Brennan's re-organisation of the Directorate of Operations in March 2015.2 Following that restructuring, responsibility for Africa may have moved to a mission center bringing together analysts and operators.3
