Gina Haspel served as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 21 May 2018 until 20 January 2021.1 An experienced operations officer who had twice served as London station chief, her appointment was controversial because of her involvement in the agency’s torture programme while serving as a senior officer in the CIA Counterterrorism Center (CIA) in the early 2000s.
