S Branch MI5

Support services 1976-c.1994

S Branch was a division of the Security Service, MI5, formed in 1976 with responsibility for management services.¹

At the time of its formation it took over responsibility for the MI5 training section from B Branch.²

According to the organograms in Christopher Andrew's authorised history of MI5, S Branch was responsible for 'support services' including the MI5 registry in 1988.³

In 1991, it was responsible for 'support services; Registry; major project management; information management.'⁴

By 1994, it had been incorporated into H Branch.⁵
